5 on a Friday

1. Can you believe June is almost over? I love podcasts that do a mid-year goal check-in. If you need some inspiration, listen to a few of my favorite podcasters and writers!

2. For the past 13 years, I’ve been tracking my reading. Some years are better than others and this year happens to be a good one! From January to June, I read 20 books. My goal for the year is 24, so I’m ahead! (I’ve been participating in the Goodreads Challenge since 2015 and I love to go back and review the data.) In 2020, I also started tracking the number of pages I read of the books I finish (in a simple Excel file). My goal is to read an average of 900 pages per month. So far for the year, I’m at 5,046 so I’m just about 7% behind schedule.

3. I just finished A Novel Love Story by Ashley Poston. One of my favorite parts of the book is when the main character, Elsy, reflects on time spent in the company of bookish friends. Let’s just say I can relate.I thought about the book events we went to together, the uncomfortable seats and the stilted small talk with other nerdy bookish people who also didn’t know the fine art of weather-related topics. How happy I was just to sit between aisles of books, breathing in the smell of newly printed pages and dusty old ones, binder’s glue and cardboard and dust.

4. This week I bought Maybe in Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid through a Kindle deal for $2.99. I love Modern Mrs. Darcy’s Great E-book Deals list!

5. I celebrated my birthday this week! My husband knows me well and gifted me these Taylor’s Version slippers.
