5 on a Friday

1. I’ve had the opportunity to participate in many different types of book clubs through the years. At the end of the day, I think the best book clubs are those where you can build community, make friends and talk about serious book topics in an emotionally safe environment. In my opinion, everyone doesn’t even need to read the same book! I’ve been part of a BYOB (Bring Your Own Book) book club, where everyone talks about what they have been reading lately, and I’m currently part of a walking book club. We log about two miles while discussing the book!

2. Before my son was born and I had time for such endeavors, I did quite a bit of research about the best way to manage my email. I finally landed on a solution called Yesterbox – where you take care of everything that happened before today. It doesn’t mean I don’t answer any emails that come in today, it just means I prioritize what happened yesterday first. I’ve been using this method for years and it has worked so well for me that I share it with other people on a regular basis.

3. I’ve been writing regularly since 2015. It’s the longest I’ve ever kept up a writing habit. At first, it started because I wanted to build up a walking habit and I started documenting all my walks and taking pictures of the scenery. Then I really got into nutrition and cooking and documented that journey. When I had my son, I documented every day of my pregnancy and maternity leave. As a family, we have moved multiple times over the years and it’s always fun to write about exploring our new city and making a house a home. If you are interested in starting a writing a habit, I suggest selecting just one topic to write about every day and then see how your writing grows from there!

4. I just started The Golden Gate by Amy Chua. It takes place in the Bay Area! The cover has the Golden Gate Bridge and the Claremont Hotel with the quote, “Every family has its secrets. Every legacy has its price.” Umm yes, please, although I hope it’s not too scary. I’ll let you know.
