Welcome to Friday! This week I’m sharing the details from my book club meet-up, a gift idea, currently reading and watching, and the Sunday Spotlight feature.
Book Club Meet-Up
Last Saturday I met up with some bookish friends at Orinda Books. The bookstore has a fantastic collection and lovely seating space that is perfect for a literary society or book club meeting!
This was the perfect way to kick off the new year. We each answered the following prompts and then bought a book (or two):
- What was your favorite book of the year and why?
- What did you learn about your reading life in 2024?
- What are your goals and what do you want to change about your reading life this year?
You can read some of my answers to these questions here.

Swiftie School
By now you know I’m a Taylor Swift fan and I’m always looking for the literary references in her songs!
I have on my list to check out this book: Taylor Swift by the Book: The Literature behind the Lyrics, from Fairy Tales to Tortured Poets.
This could be a great gift for the bookish Swiftie in your life!

Currently Reading
I’m happy to report that everyone under our roof is reading and we are all big fans of the library.
My son is in first grade and this week he brought home Gold! by David Shannon. It’s about a boy who loves gold – sells lemonade by the sip – and then turns into a statue of gold. This was cute and sparked a discussion with my son about the important things in life.

My husband started reading a series this year and is already on the third book: Acceptance by Jeff Vandermeer.

This week I finished Weyward by Emilia Hart. I gave it five stars!
We never thought of ourselves as witches, my mother and I. For this was a word invented by men, a word that brings power to those who speak it, not those it describes.

Currently Watching
My husband read Silo last year and we recently started watching the series together.

I finally finished Gilmore Girls and now I’m watching A Year in the Life.

Sunday Spotlight: Meet Faith
This past Sunday, I shared the second edition in the Sunday Spotlight series. This series highlights real-life readers and explores bookish habits, preferences, and even a few literary sins.
Faith is a reader, librarian, YA expert, and major influence on my own reading life! I know that I can always count on Faith for her candid reviews and recommendations. We don’t get to see each other in-person very often, so most of our communication is texting links to books, podcasts, articles and discussing fictional characters.
If you missed it, enjoy my interview with Faith!

Last weekend was quite busy for us with tennis, book club, a birthday party, and a play date so we are looking forward to a not-so-busy and relaxing two days!
