6 on a Saturday

Happy Saturday! A day late but with an extra dose of bookish joy today. I’m sharing two books I read this week, a resource where you can read classics for free, a high stakes heist book list, and my thoughts on two celebrity book club selections.

The Night We Lost Him

Libby recently introduced the ability to filter by audiobook length and it is a game changer for me. I love a good book that’s 10 hours or less. It just feels more manageable. That’s how I found The Night We Lost Him by Laura Dave. (As of today, the e-book is $2.99!)

I am usually not a fan of mysteries or thrillers, but this was really more about family dynamics. Not scary! I also thought the main character’s career was so cool; she works in the field of neuro-architecture, exploring the impact of design on behavior, emotions, and well-being.

The narration by Julia Whelan was excellent, as always!

Nora Goes Off Script

I mentioned in the Tuesday TBR this week that Annabel Monaghan is an auto-read author for me. I’ve read all of her novels now and I’m excited about her new release coming in May!

Nora Goes Off Script was her debut published in 2022. I listened to the audiobook via Libby, narrated by Hillary Huber. It’s very rare that I start and finish a book in a single day, but this one moved quick and was right at seven hours. Perfect for a day off work and cleaning the house, running errands, and sitting through a tennis lesson for my son.

This book is set in New York and is about a single mom of two who writes romance screenplays for a living. She gets a big break when the most famous actor in the country is cast in her movie and stays on location…on her property.

This one is perfect for fans of Emily Henry!

High Stakes Heist Novels

Last week after finishing The Art Thief I was hoping to find even more heist novels to add to my TBR. Whoever creates the Libby Life newsletter must have been reading my mind! Check out this list of high stakes heist novels!

Read with Jenna

The celebrity book club, Read with Jenna, selected Heartwood by Amity Gaige for April. Below I’ll take you through my process for deciding whether or not I add a book to my TBR!

Initial reactions. I don’t know what to think about the cover. I don’t know what Heartwood means. Is that a tree? I do enjoy a good Elin Hilderbrand novel and she provided one of the blurbs. Haven’t heard of this author.

Thoughts after reading the synopsis. Mystery. Suspense. Thriller. All categories I pretty much avoid. This book is about a forty-two year old woman who vanishes while hiking the Appalachian Trail.

TBR worthy? Nope. Not for me. However, I’m sharing because I know people who would love this book!

Reese’s Book Club

This month Reese’s Book Club is reading All That Life Can Afford by Emily Everett.

Initial reactions. I love this cover: the colors, the map, the hair. I’m intrigued by the title. I’ve never heard of this author.

Thoughts after reading the synopsis. This looks like a really good read. An American finds herself in London amid the “jet-set elite.” I’m getting Gossip Girl vibes.

TBR worthy? Absolutely. Immediate add!

That’s it for this week! This weekend, we don’t have any really big plans. It was a wild work week for me so I’m thankful to just hit the reset button on some of the things I need to get done around the house and start preparing for the end of the school year / summer!

Have a great weekend and happy reading!
