Today I’m sharing a new release that hit shelves last week. You may know this author from her other historical fiction works with strong female characters, such as The Only Woman in the Room.
In Daughter of Egypt, Marie Benedict shares the story of Lady Evelyn Herbert, who helped discover the treasure-filled tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun in the 1920s. She later becomes obsessed with tracking down the lost tomb of Hatshepsut, Egypt’s lost pharaoh. The story connects Evelyn’s journey with Hatshepsut’s, two women who were forced to hide who they were during their lifetimes, but changed history forever.

I love Marie Benedict’s writing because she so clearly highlights the contributions of women that are often forgotten to the history books.
Other works by her include:
The Other Einstein (2016)

Carnegie’s Maid (2018)

The Only Woman in the Room (2019)

Lady Clementine (2020)

The Personal Librarian (2021)

Her Hidden Genius (2022)

The First Ladies (2023)

The Mitford Affair (2023)

The Queens of Crime (2025)

Let me know if you’ve read any books by Marie Benedict!
