Happy Friday! We are getting back into the swing of things and finding our rhythms this week with back-to-school and fall sports. I also had my first pumpkin spice latte of the season on a morning walk this week. It’s Northern California, it feels like Fall, what can I say? It’s hard to believe that we are almost in September. I’ve attended some really exciting book events recently and have more planned that I can’t wait to share over the next few weeks!
1. End of the week shopping spree. Last Friday after work I was in the mood for a shopping spree. Instead of visiting a bookstore, I visited the Walnut Creek Library and checked out six newly released books! I suggest “shopping” at your local library the next time you need some retail therapy. The books I checked out are below. Let me know if you’ve ready any of them and what you thought!

- The Peach Seed by Anita Gail Jones
- By Any Other Name by Jodi Picoult
- Anita De Monte Laughs Last by Xochitl Gonzalez
- Shelterwood by Lisa Wingate
- The Stolen Coast by Dwyer Murphy
- Talking at Night by Claire Daverley
2. Saturday at the bookstore. I had the opportunity to meet-up with some bookish friends at Orinda Books over the weekend. We spent two hours discussing our favorite reads of the month, books we are looking forward to reading, and books with Fall vibes. I also (finally) bought The Women, by Kristin Hannah, and can’t wait to dive in!

3. Fall vibes., check out this list of books set on college campuses. I have not read The Secret History by Donna Tart, but I hear it is Required Fall Reading.
4. Celebrity book clubs. Check out a few of my favorites and their upcoming September picks!
5. Reading habits. I’ve always loved reading and literature; I even have my minor in English (which means I took a 400 level Shakespeare class in college…I know, right?). After graduation, I focused on my career and I didn’t read very much (besides The Hunger Games!), but I got back into it when I was 24 years old. I was living in Nebraska at the time and had to drive to Kansas frequently for work. This is when I learned about Audible credits and started my love for audio books. (Yes, it counts as reading!) That same year I got married and started taking some of my hobbies a little more seriously! I read 24 books that year and 25 the next year…and I never looked back. I’m often asked, “when do you read?” and “how do you have time to just sit and read?”
- I don’t watch a lot of TV, movies, or sports. Sometimes I get hooked on a show and will watch it in a weekend, but then I go back to reading.
- I do love social media, but sometimes I’ll take a break for a weekend, week, or month and focus on reading. I find that I read a lot more when I take social media breaks!
- I am format agnostic, which means I will read a physical book, e-book, or audio book. Sometimes I’ll have all three formats of the same book, especially if they are available on Libby and/or at the library. This helps me get through books really fast!
- I don’t really have a long commute anymore, so I listen to audio books while I’m cleaning the house, folding laundry, or taking a walk.
- I love books with short chapters because I feel like I can squeeze them in between chores or right before I fall asleep.
- I bring a book almost everywhere I go. You never know when you might have time to read!
I truly believe that if you don’t like reading, you just haven’t found the right book or genre yet. Keep searching!
Have a great weekend and happy reading!
