You know how some people have an eye for thrifting, interior design, or instinctively measuring ingredients without a recipe? I’ve realized I have a similar knack: spotting great books inside Little Free Libraries.
Earlier this week, I caught sight of a book from my TBR peeking out from one of my neighborhood LFLs. I didn’t have a book on me at the time to trade, so I made a plan to come back later with something to swap. There’s a unique excitement in wondering if the book will still be there. And this time, it was!
The book I brought from home was The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson, a National Book Award finalist. It’s “the true tale of the 1893 World’s Fair in Chicago and the cunning serial killer who used the magic and majesty of the fair to lure his victims to their death.” I picked it up years ago at a local library book sale, back before I accepted the truth: I can’t read true crime without losing sleep. Into the LFL it went!

I had my eye on these three books in the Little Free Library. Let me know if any others caught your eye that I should check out!

I went home with It’s a Love Story by Annabel Monaghan, published in May of this year. However, it was a feature in the Tuesday TBR before that! It’s a novel about a former adolescent TV actress-turned-Hollywood producer whose “fake it till you make it” mantra sets her on a crash course with her past, forcing her to spend a week on Long Island with the last man she thinks might make her believe in love.

I’ve had the opportunity to read Monaghan’s previous works as well. They are easy-to-read and delightfully charming. If you want to read the backlist in order, check it out below!

There’s something so satisfying about giving a book a second (or third) life and discovering a new read in return. To find a Little Free Library near you, visit https://littlefreelibrary.org/.
