Happy May-cember! Have you heard that term yet? All the things are happening: Teacher Appreciation Week, school concerts and plays, field day, Mother’s Day, and lots of birthday parties! This year my son is also playing baseball and play-offs start next week. We are so lucky to be in this season of life and also very ready for summer break!
After today’s baseball game, I headed to the library to “just return one book” that was due today. I scored free 30-minute parking and thought to myself, “I’ll just browse really quick.” Of course I came home with some great new releases!

A Far-Flung Life by M.L. Stedman (2026)
Written by the same author of The Light Between Oceans (I didn’t read this book, but I did watch this movie…all the emotions!). A Far-Flung Life is set in Western Australia beginning in 1958 and is “a sweeping and epic story of a family, a tragedy, and the aftermath that reverberates for decades.”

All That Life Can Afford by Emily Everett (2025)
Last year when I saw this book on Reese’s Book Club list, I knew I had to read it. Emily Everett is a new-to-me author who “peels back the glossy layers of class and privilege, exploring what it means to create a new life for yourself that still honors the one you’ve left behind.”

This is a Love Story by Jessica Soffer (2025)
This is a “Read with Jenna” book that has a strong sense of place. It’s described as “in conversation with Central Park” and an “homage to New York City.” Deep truths about marriage and life? Yes, please.

American Fantasy by Emma Straub (2026)
A boy band goes back on tour…on a cruise ship. It’s described as having “laugh-out-loud reflections on fame, marriage, and middle age.” (My friend just texted me that it wasn’t her favorite by Emma Straub, so do with that what you will!)

The Wilderness by Angela Flournoy (2025)
This novel was a National Book Award Finalist! Set in New York and Los Angeles, the story follows a group of women from the early 2000’s (when they are in their 20’s) into the 2020’s. As you can imagine, they “must figure out what they mean to one another – amid political upheaval, economic and environmental instability, and the increasing volatility of modern American life.”

That’s it for this week’s library book haul! I have about 90 minutes left on my current audiobook and then I need to finish another book for book club this week. Then I can pick up one of these library books.

Which book should I start with?
