A few years ago, I completed a “slow read” of Notes on a Nervous Planet by Matt Haig. A slow read is when you read just a few pages at a time.

The section called “Fiction is Freedom” was my favorite. Here’s an excerpt:
So often, reading is seen as important because of its social value. It is tied to education and the economy and so on. But that misses the whole point of reading.
Reading isn’t important because it helps to get you a job. It’s important because it gives you room to exist beyond the reality you’re given. It is how humans merge. How minds connect. Dreams. Empathy. Understanding. Escape.
Reading is love in action.

Notes on a Nervous Planet was published in 2019 and is 304 pages. The audiobook is 5 hours and narrated by the author, Matt Haig, who is also the author of The Midnight Library.
From the publisher:
Looking at sleep, news, social media, addiction, work and play, Matt Haig invites us to feel calmer, happier and to question the habits of the digital age. This book might even change the way you spend your precious time on earth.
