My son’s Saturday games were cancelled yesterday and so our family had a completely free weekend day! We are back to regularly scheduled Sunday programming today, but I wanted to take a moment to reflect on this quote I heard recently,
“Boring days deserve more credit.”
Since back-to-school in mid-August, we have been on a go-go-go schedule with my husband’s international travel, an out-of-state bachelorette party for me, hosting my mom for a week, and sports at least four days a week. Did I mention we both work full-time, too?

So, what to do with a completely free day? Here’s what I did:
I woke up around 6:15am and published my daily blog post. This one was about loading up my Kindle with library books for last weekend’s bachelorette getaway!

Then I created a reel on Instagram highlighting photos from my 30 Days of Writing Project. Follow me @eastbaybookshelf if you don’t already!
I also gave an Insta shout-out to Author J. Blake Myersmann because I received the signed copy of his book in the mail this week!

Then I went on a 4-mile walk. The weather was literally perfect and I ran into so many people I knew!

It had been a while since my family made a Costco run, so we loaded up in the car and headed out. On Saturday morning there are samples on every aisle and it is seriously so much fun to do taste testing with my 9-year-old. Core family memories are created every time we go. I also bought this jacket in red. Who says you can’t find cute fall clothes at Costco?!
Then I went to the nail salon for a much-needed fall-inspired pedicure. I selected a dark purple. I read this book during my appointment and now I’m about 75% finished. Hopefully I can finish today!
It was still too early to start dinner when I got home, so I made some tea in my favorite mug and my husband and I sat on the deck for some outside reading time. He’s almost done with the 8th book in the Dungeon Crawler Carl series (there are still 2 more to be published and he will be ready for them!).

We ate dinner and then I went to the store for a pint of our family’s favorite ice cream. I listened to my audiobook in the car (this was a book club pick for September and I still need to finish. Oops.) Then I watched an episode of Sterling Point before bed.
Today we are back to reality with sports, laundry, and preparing for the week ahead. I consider yesterday a gift from the universe in the midst of an otherwise busy season of life.
Questions for you:
- What would you do with a completely free (surprise!) weekend day?
- What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?
- What TV show are you watching?
