5 on a Friday

I can’t believe it’s already Friday, this week flew right by! I enjoyed the early morning sunlight after the time change, but I’m definitely still adjusting to evenings in the dark.

For today’s 5 on a Friday, I’m sharing my county’s annual book selection, what I read in 2015 that I continue to recommend, one of my favorite quotes, a recently added TBR, and a writing tip about consistency.

County Book Club!

I was browsing the stacks at the Walnut Creek Library and saw the display for the annual Read Contra Costa event from October 1st through November 14th. Of course I picked up a book!

Blast from the Past

I’ve been tracking my reading since 2015 and over the next few months I’m going to share the books I still can’t stop talking about from each of the past 11 years. In the new year, I’ll share my favorite reads of 2026! This week, I’m sharing all about my favorites from 2015.

Quotable

A few years ago, I completed a “slow read” of Notes on a Nervous Planet by Matt Haig. A slow read is when you read just a few pages at a time. The section called “Fiction is Freedom” was my favorite.

To Be Read

My friend recently sent me a book recommendation: The Forgotten Midwife by Laura Anthony. We share similar taste in historical fiction, so I trust her completely!

On Writing

I was texting back and forth with a fellow blogger who is re-establishing a writing routine. I told her about my 30 Days of Writing project and the one piece of advice that has continued to help me after 50+ days of writing consecutively.

That’s it for this week! I just finished a really long book and now I have my eye on a short & sweet seasonal mystery romance.
