Happy Friday and I hope your summer is off to a great start! We are slowly falling into our summer routine this week. Last weekend I was out of town, so today I’m recapping my trip and highlighting some other posts from this week.
A (Bookish) Texas Vacation
Over the weekend, I was in Texas visiting friends and family. I started my trip by taking BART to SFO and, of course, had to browse the selection at Compass Books in the terminal.

My cousin picked me up at the airport in Houston and of course we immediately started talking all things books! She had created a very nerdy (and wonderful) itinerary for Thursday. We kicked off the day with a walk to Lit Java, a bookstore & coffee shop in Pearland.

Then we headed to the Pearland Public Library to browse and we even got a personal tour. We also stopped and talked to the librarian about all things book clubs! After that, we checked out the school library.

I love this sign!

We headed to the beach for a few days of relaxation. Some of the books that were brought in our group: Great Big Beautiful Life, Huck Finn (my cousin is about to read James and wanted to be prepared), On Again, Awkward Again, and This Time Tomorrow.

Pre-teen sources tell me that the Warriors series is so good!

I wrapped up my time in Texas with my parents on Sunday night and headed back to California on Monday!
The Art Spy
Check out why The Art Spy landed on my Tuesday TBR this week.

My Writing Schedule
In Beyond the Bookshelf, I take you through my weekly writing schedule.

Quotable
As you know, I’m reading On Writing by Stephen King. The first part of the memoir is about his life and now I’m into the second half, which mostly focuses on the craft of writing. I love this quote – it’s a good reminder about why we make art.
It starts with this: put your desk in the corner, and every time you sit down there to write, remind yourself why it isn’t in the middle of the room. Life isn’t a support system for art. It’s the other way around.
E-Book Deals!
Check out these award winning books on sale! One is a Nobel Prize Winner and the other two are National Book Award Winners.

The weather is warming up in the Bay Area and I’m currently headed to a soccer game tonight. Stay cool and I hope you can squeeze in some reading time this weekend!
