Last weekend my husband asked me, “What are we going to do with the extra hour next Sunday?” I’ve been thinking about it all week!
On a normal weekday, my alarm clock goes off at 6:15am. But I often wake up right before. This morning, I woke up at 5:15am. I couldn’t believe that I captured the entire hour and didn’t just sleep right through it—which would be perfectly fine, by the way.
Each year when the clocks “fall back” we get to actually answer that often-wished-for hypothetical of having more hours in the day.
For me, the answer is simple: I’ll spend that time doing some of my favorite hobbies: reading, writing, or walking. I do them any time I find myself with extra time on my hands.

If you don’t know how you would spend an extra hour in the day or you aren’t satisfied with your answer to that question, ask yourself, “What am I doing on a regular day when I have an extra 5-10 minutes between activities?” An hour isn’t long enough to take a dream vacation, but you can make meaningful incremental progress in other ways.
On the other hand, if you have aspirational goals for the extra hour, you can ask yourself how you would like to fit more of those activities into your day-to-day.
I want to be super clear that sleeping, relaxing with family, watching TV, and scrolling on your phone are perfectly acceptable answers to this question! When my son was little, that is definitely how I would be spending extra hours. What matters is that you are satisfied with how you spend your time!
So tell me, if you are in part of the world that sets clocks back this time of year, how do you plan on spending your extra hour?
