June is Audiobook Appreciation Month, so it’s the perfect time for me to share why I love audiobooks and how they enhance my reading life.
I’ve spent much of my adult-life understanding accessibility and over the years I learned a term called “universal design.”
Universal design is the process of creating products, environments, and digital systems that are naturally accessible to all people, to the greatest extent possible, without needing specialized adaptation. (Learn more)
Audiobooks are a great example of universal design because they have removed barriers to reading for people of all abilities and have entered the mainstream in recent years. As a full-time working mom, I just do not have as much time as I would like to sit down with a book and read with my eyes. I listen while I’m driving, folding laundry, and cleaning the house.
I often listen to audiobooks during the day and then switch to the e-book or physical copy of the same book to read before bed!
