5 on a Friday

This week I continued with my 30 Days of Writing project and I’m almost to the halfway point! I’ve had a few lessons learned along the way and can’t wait to tell you all about it when I finish. Follow me @eastbaybookshelf on Instagram to get the daily updates in my stories!

The One That Got Away

In 2021 I started a book, read 50%, but just could not finish it. Fast forward 5 years later, I think about it all the time. Find out which book and why it’s always on my mind!

About East Bay Bookshelf

I started East Bay Bookshelf in 2024 after years of looking for a regular blog written by a regular reader where I live. I don’t read 100 books per year, and I can’t go to every single bookish event, but I can show you how to be part of a community of readers, libraries, and bookstores in the East Bay.

Little Free Library Finds

Even if I don’t have a book to trade at the moment, I need to open the door of every Little Free Library I pass to see what’s in there. If the selection is really good, I make a mental note to come back later with a book. It’s always such a thrill because I never know what I’m going to discover. I’m lucky enough to be around enough LFLs that are regularly stocked with some great reads. That was definitely the case this past week when I walked by one.

TBR: The Pirate Queen by Ariel Lawhon

The Pirate Queen was published on September 8, 2026 and I immediately added it to my TBR. Ariel Lawhon is an auto-read author for me, which means that if she writes it, I’ll read it! I always learn so much from her historical fiction.

Book Review: It’s a Love Story by Annabel Monaghan

It’s a Love Story is an enemies-to-lovers romance that begins in Hollywood. Of course there is a cross-country trip involved to a small town, and a “now you have to share a room” situation—a close proximity romance trope, and we love to read it.

Over the next week, I’m spending lots of time with my mom and looking forward to officially welcoming fall! I’m also hoping to finish Big Little Truths for book club.

What are YOU reading this weekend?
